All Quinn Bees honey comes from established honey bee colonies in numerous apiaries throughout the Brazoria County, Galveston County, and Harris County areas (Texas). No honey comes from bee removals.
Beekeeping can be an expensive hobby. But I am not a hobbiest. I am a professional beekeeper who does not get a paycheck. Within 1 year, each colony I collect will cost me over $400 in materials. This does not include milage, gas, time, hazard pay, removal equipment etc. Depending on available donations/funds, individual circumstance, and beekeeper availability, you can apply for charity removal (very limited at this time).
Once the hive is located, it is exposed and all the comb and the colony are removed. Typically we use a special bee vacuum to remove the honey bees safely. The area is then cleaned up and a liquid rubber sealant is applied to the area to deter future swarms. "Repair" of the area will be discussed with owner before hand. All jobs vary depending on circumstances.
It is near impossible to catch all the bees. Some foraging bees will not be home for the removal. It is not uncommon to see a small cluster of bees 1-4 days after the colony is removed.
It depends. Beekeeper will educate on pros and cons of removal honey. Upon request, beekeeper can bring stainless straining equipment (to be returned as job completes), and provide the best capped honey comb available for the customer to crush and strain themselves. Some hives have a lot of honey, and some almost none. Beekeeper is not responsible for any negative side effects.
Beekeeper does not keep/sell removal honey.
Clients are welcome to observe at their own risk. Beekeeper is not responsible for stings, injury, or medical events.
Ag Valuation is a way to save BIG money on your taxes. Land/property must meet certain criteria. Property owner must call or go to local CAD (County Appraisal District) to learn more and apply.
Each property and location is different. Call your local CAD for details.
Quinn Bees rents or sells honey bees for property owners to meet Ag Val criteria. If renting, beekeeper will provide contract and review details before final agreement. Beekeeper manages all hives and will maintain minimum colonies required. If buying, beekeeper can sell honey bee colonies for property owner to manage. Raw local honey has been said to help with seasonal allergies. It also has antioxidant properties that boost immunity, anti-microbial properties that inhibit bacterial growth, anti-inflammatory properties that decrease inflammation. It is used in skin care products that can help with acne, dandruff, eczema, and much more. Honey is also used to heal certain wounds.

Crystallization is a natural process that all honey will go through the longer it is kept. If honey is kept in cool temperatures (in the home), it will crystalize faster.
Honey is mainly composed of natural glucose and fructose. When nectar is collected and delivered by the honey bee to the colony, they add enzymes. Depending on the quantities is each enzyme, the honey may crystalize slower or faster.
Yes! Clean raw honey never expires, even when it crystallizes.
Disclaimer: Raw honey should not be fed to children under 1 year of age. Please research signs of honey gone bad (contamination, toxins, adulteration, degradation, etc).
Be careful with de-crystallizing raw honey if you want to preserve the health benefits. Honey bees keep the hive at approx 95 deg F. A warm water bath is a good way to de-crystalize honey. Do not microwave. Ideally heat between 95-104 deg F until honey liquifies.
Blended honey can mean a few things. Often times, the honey bought in stores is blended with high fructose corn syrup or other sugars. It can also mean that 2 or more honeys from different beekeepers have been mixed together and sold as 1.
Quinn Bees does NOT blend honey.
Just like many natural fields of work, beekeeping in constantly evolving. New research is constantly providing new information. We would love to hear from you on new information/research articles that could add to our education.
